I first learned about magnetars from ‘Heart-shaped box’ by Nirvana.

for the record, that ? should be neutron stars/pulsars/magnetars for stars between 8 & 20 solar masses. Above that shit gets complicated-->

-->& while you often get black holes, mass stops being the only factor that decides whether you get a neutron star, black hole, or a -->

Very informative, but there are quite a few mistakes. Neutron stars aren't their total weight of the former star, you meant cubic cm, etc.

At even further distances, they can still rip the iron out of your blood stream

--> good at making the dying star shed mass before it collapses. (for the record, in astronomy, metal = anything that's not H or He)

Magneton? Fun fact: there's actually a physical constant called the Bohr magneton.

Neutron degenerate matter: For when your gravity is so yuge your electrons prefer to be neutrons instead

songbringer . 2018-08-21 08:17:16
At that density, it is just solid sub-atomic particles with no space between, I don't think it can be described as an element.

Stars of 2 to 8 solar masses will not be yellow dwarfs. They are too massive to be a yellow star, they are A or B-type stars and are blue.

Atoms on earth have 99.999999 % free space and that fucker just squishes everything together so more mass for less space

Stars above ~15-20 solar masses swing back and forth between main sequence and giants as they change the elements being fused in their core

Except for a type 1a or pair instability, ALL supernovae produce neutron stars. But in more massive progenitors, matter falls back onto /1
