Ever wonder what a gold coin looks like or feels like close up? Wonder no more as I take a close up and careful look at these things. Weighing them, taking the density, giving you my impression on this 1oz (Troy) gold coin which is slightly heavier than 1 oz typically.

I have always wanted to own a Chinese gold ingot like the ones they use in old Chinese movies to pay corrupt Government officials. I imagine it would be around 3 or 4 oz. But a gold coin is also very nice. Do you still have that gold coin?

Just take it to a coin dealer or jewelry store /pawn shop that has an electronic gold tester that doesn’t damage coin.
Good video nice coin I love holding my gold coins. I also melt gold and silver to make crude “coins” and “bars”

You and I seem so relatable. That being said have you fallen into the slippery slope that is precious metals, do you own any more bullion/coins now? Perhaps some silver?

The best way to assure that your coin is legit, is to look up the dimensions on coin websites, like APMEX. Be sure the thickness and diameter are what they should be, and that the weight is what it should be. If it's gold-plated lead or tungsten (which seems to be a more commonly used metal for gold coin counterfeiting), then one of those dimensions will be off.

APMEX is a very reputable company to get or buy precious metals from.

You would not be able to distinguish between a genuine gold coin and a gold plated tungsten coin using the methods you indicated. You need to use the slide test (over neodymium magnets) or the ping test (tungsten does not ring). Gold-plated tungsten coins are faster sliding down past the neodymium magnets, compared to a genuine gold coin.

Your next coin should be the 50 mexican peso. It's 1.2057 oz. I just bought two. APMEX is a good company.

I have around 15 oz of gold bullion, and I am planning to buy a few more also this year. Usually mid July has been the best time of the year to buy some gold.

I did buy a gold coin and some silver coins before when the prices were high but lost some when sold them when prices came down (had to let go of them). Have you thought of buying gold or silver as an investment? By the way love your channel keep up the good work. Keep humble and simple those are good traits to have.

Did you ever consider buying a gold coin from eBay (or anywhere that accepts a credit card) in order to meet the spending requirement of a credit card bonus offer? Then sell the coin ASAP? Would the transaction costs be too high?

Wow, just get a precious metals verifier!! You are really showing your Asian math skills!! As a silver stacker I buy from Provident metals mostly but have purchased from Apmex too. A better investment would have been an American eagle gold coin, much easier to sell also. Those math skills bro, you should have been a mathematician.

There was an old guy near Fresno who cut a deal with all the gravel companies that operated all along the Sierra mountains. He would divert part of their rock crushings through his riffles which he had set up with Mercury. He would bring home the mercury and burn it off in a retort. He had gold and silver bars all over his house. No one knew he was doing that except for a few trusted people.

the laptop has far more value as you can access the internet, work remotely, invest online, do many tasks, read books, see movies and videos, launch a business ... even a dirty cheap computer is "more" valuable (in term of usability) than the gold coin.

The gold coin is of great storage value (since millenia's worldwide) but that's all it is.
There is no more potential to exploit in there. You cannot do anything with it...

Love beat the bush he is very informative. Awesome vids

a Cheaper way to test a krugerrand is to put coin on your finger nail and flick it or hit it with a metal piece.Makes a long lasting echoing sound.

Normal coins dont make this noise. a Metal that weighs closer to gold is Tungsten, its safer to buy coins than bars. They can take tungsten and plate it with gold.

Krugerrands a better way of buying gold

After college, I got interested in baking, but I didn't have enough money for the class fee. I heard that my nursing professional pin has some gold in it. So, I went to a pawnshop to figure it out. Surprisingly, they exchanged it for about 1500 pesos. I used it to buy materials and pay for my baking class. Then, I claimed it in a month after saving money I got from selling cupcakes and macaroons I learned to bake from my class. Lol. ^-^

Nice to hold actual money in your hands and not currency isn't it. My 2 cents would be to buy US Gold Eagles or the Canadian Maple Leaf. You get the best of both worlds as you have potential gold price increase and numismatic value. I only buy from Bay Precious Metals as they have the lowest prices on eBay.

The guys are right here, at present you may loose money - but gold and silver are a long term investment. Hold it for at least 20 years and you will be happy. Its just a hedge against inflation and the stock market. I personally own 500 oz silver and 10 oz gold (all Maples) and wont touch it until I retire. But I don't like the Kruger - its not 9999 Gold - if I were you, I would have bought the Maple Leaf. A much nicer coin and its 9999 Gold!

Theres a couple of easier ways to test that integrity of the coin, you may know this by now, but if you get a really strong magnet, say from a computer hard drive it should not be magnetic.   Tungsten filled coins can also mimic this property, so another way to do it is to put it in a plastic bag and dangle it in the air, and tap the coin with the metal handle of say a kitchen knife, and it makes a very unique 'ting' sound, that will not be produced by hitting anything other than near solid gold or silver.

Stop handling the coin! 1979 Kruggerrand  because your hand oils react and will tarnish, degrading the value of the coin. Buy from Goldline! 1% of your portfolio should be precious metals.

I've bought from APMEX several times. While almost nothing in life is 100% guaranteed, you are pretty safe buying from them. If you want to save some of the hassle that you experienced, you might try looking at local coin shops. They usually will give you a good price for cash and you don't have to mess with sending a check in the mail.

hope this isn’t a duplicate post, but i paid $284 for my first 1979 gold Kuggerand. a bunch of bored USAF almost-pilots had nothing better to do then convince the only dizzy blonde in the room to spend her own money JUST to see what a gold coin felt like! i still buy one coin each month, for my children. what the fudge they will do with them i have no idea! lol ps it’s not like you can buy a loaf of bread with a gold coin, right?

on another boring evening in USAF training, we got bored and decided I should buy a 12 ounce troy pound of gold for sh*ts and giggles. approximately $3,600.00 USD later, we spent several hours wondering what the fudge I would do with this odd conversation starter. after too many drinks and several disco songs later, i decided to keep buying both Kuggerands AND gold bars. they are now in a bank safe deposit box collecting dust. i plan to keep buying them and give them to my children. yep, even MENSA folk make silly purchases! lol
