In this video I show my handmade "vio-harp" and how it was made. This is a self-invented instrument that I came up with when I was making another bowed instrument the bowed psaltery. I noticed that when playing the psaltery you have to lift the bow and place it between the zither pins to change notes. I wanted to make an instrument where you could just roll the bow or the instrument to change notes. After achieving this by rounding the nut and the bridge and thinning out the neck area I came up with an eight-string instrument with harmony strings. These can be tuned to different chords that can be used as strings when playing with other instruments like guitar, piano and bass. I will be making models with different shapes and using maple and mahogany for the builds.
This is a fun and easy instrument to play. It's all in the tuning and bowing.
I hope you like this video!
