The reason the Supers didn't show up to help Winston's dad was because they had just been made illegal.

Someone just tell Brad Bird he is a good and special boy and give him a hug before he starts building his underwater objectivist dictatorship drug city?

I can’t believe I just realized the villain and pseudo villain were named Evil and Win like Jfc here I thought Winston was the bad one and Evelyn wasn’t and their names were literally win and evil Jfc I’m so dumb

My personal qualm about superhero stories is their message of, "Look how effective cops could be if it weren't for all those pesky laws restricting their freedom of action."

Literally my only issue with incredibles 2 is that it's the same plot as incredibles 1. And the family wasn't in the least bit suspicious. Like. This JUST happened to you.

Here's my biggest issue of 2:
"Super heroes are destructive!"
most of the movie is trying to prove they're not
ending is literally just the super heroes causes huge amounts of damage
It just felt kinda counter productive.

this is a very intriguing take and I want someone to write a really good fanfic about it (mostly because I know it won't ever be tackled in any mainstream way...maybe in 2050 when incredibles 3 comes out)

well... Hogarth was stated to have been a bit better in school than the other kids and that's why he didn't have any friends or something. so maybe that was foreshadowing to what was yet to come

I was confused and then I realized that the movie is so unremarkable that in my mind Nando V Movies' version (the rewriting of Screenslaver, not the finale) has replaced the actual movie.

Brad Bird's Iron Giant: You don't have to be a gun. You are what you choose to be.

Brad Bird's Incredibles 2: Jack Jack, you are a gun. Because that's how we choose to use you. pew pew

Between Tomorrowland, this movie, and the way he said in interviews Inside Out was about how it's bad people are on antidepressants and they should just accept being sad sometimes (which is definitely what depression is...) I'm starting to think Brad Bird might actually be kind of an idiot jerk and Iron Giant was a fluke that only came about because something legitimately awful happened in his life for him to write about

Brad Bird has said in an interview somewhere (I wish I could remember where I read it) that he grew up in a very objectivist family. Like, his parents believed in it and especially one of his uncles (huge Ayn Rand fans) and he never really agreed with the premise, so most of his career has been him trying to refute this, but for whatever reason, he hasn't been so great at it. Like, he comes at it from the wrong angle. He's trying to prove that if people are born special, they should use their specialness for the betterment of others rather than selfishly, but by focusing on the "greatness" aspect, he's only focusing on half of what's wrong with the philosophy.

Lol Brad Bird is really into objectivist philosophy which really shows through in his films and explains his heroes and villains.

Its like if Atlas Shrugged was about super heroes instead of seemingly perfect capitalists

I think the idea of the father flashback was something to do with the fact that they'd just been outlawed. So it was like "superheroes are great but we banned them so that's sad" kind of deal. My problem with that was mostly that the villain like...wasn't really making a point about this? It was like "heroes make us lazy" when really it should've been more like "heroes inspire false hope and they can't actually help us!" because, like, the dad wasn't lazy?? He actively tried to do something about the situation by calling for help instead of passively hiding, and that led to his death. Why couldn't the argument be about superheroes being useless and just false idols? And how normal people shouldn't rely on extraordinary humans to solve all their problems? Because that ties into the first movie's themes. IDK

good video but counterpoint: ratatouille’s has a very large anyone can cook message. Remi’s “superpower” is just an appreciation for food his family doesn’t have but technically could

You basically described EXACTLY what I want to see in Incredibels 3. Both the first and second film seem to have this sort of horrible implications about superheroes being "better" then everyone else because they have powers. the whole "Everyone's special is just a way of saying no one is" so it'd be nice to have a movie where some people without super powers help out, or maybe even the family actually loses their powers and has to figure out how to save the day without them.

I really didn't want a Ratatouille sequel... but now I do. but only if it's literally exactly the movie you described.

tbh if you're going around killing people, your ideology doesn't matter. no-one cares about your contribution to The Marketplace Of Ideas. someone oughta punch you in the face and make you stop killing people because, y'know, killing people is wrong.

Brad Bird has a bizarre relationship with "specialness". It's like he's trying to find the good parts in Ayn Rand without realizing there aren't any.

Brad Bird took 14 years to crap out a sequel that any competent hack could have given us in 3 months. I always thought that the sequel would skip forward the same amount of time and tell us the story of the family moving apart and then coming back together. Violet would be just getting out of college into the real world, Dash would be just starting college, Jack Jack is in high school - everyone is moving in different directions, but they are still family. That's the movie I thought we would get.

"They needed a scene where the villain's plan is in some way thwarted by a non-superpowered character putting themselves in harm's way to help"

But that would go against his whole Randian-esque philosophy where the common folk need to just get out of the way of the supermen and let them do the good stuff they need to do!

I can't help but feel like the movie could have done itself a favor by showing how the world solved supervillain problems without the existence of superheroes for years... Instead of the implication being that Superheroes cause so much collateral damage that simply letting villains get away with it is cheaper.

Anyway a good plot for Incredibles 2 should have revolved around how the government cancelled memories from people's minds to preserve superhero's idendities and maybe the incredibles didn't know it and then they found out thanks to violet and then they had to do something to prevent that from happening again
