Yeah, most superhero movies feel like they have eugenic undertones...this whole you are special because of how you were born and everyone else is not is sketchy af

I saw Incredibles 2 the other day and I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that was into Screenslaver's rant but didn't see how it tied in with the rest of the movie because like... what happened with that? AND ALSO, RATATOUILLE IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES TOO AND NO ONE UNDERSTANDS THAT

Remy and Emile. Okay. I have a really sensitive olfactive sense. I can smell a canary break wind in lauderdale but can I cook? no. And I've had people take me aside (aunts, friend's mothers, etc...), I have bought books and watched countless youtube tutorials. I think the problem lies in my sense of timing. bake at 350 for 20 minutes? How about 400 degrees for 40.

But anyway, even if you're born with a "sophisticated palette" and you try sometimes the best you can manage is you don't burn toast anymore. And you know, I'll take it. Cause progress is progress no matter how small and having a keener sense in some area of life gives me no particular advantage over someone who has the passion to never give up.

So you keep on loving Ratatouille you. :)

I hated Incredibles 2. It was the same as incredibles just with the roles switched and everyone is extra shitty to each other and nothing really gets resolved. It seemed pretty miserable for a kids movie. On top of that the villain didn't make any sense at all. This analysis was just an example of how badly the movie failed at almost everything but hey we had cute baby moments!

Am I the only one who is getting a little bit tired of the predictable plot twists? They are in nearly every children/family movie. Just those ones where it's a good guy who you think is a good guy but in the end they are really a bad guy who has some stupid motive to be a bad guy. Then they reveal their plan that ends up backfiring on them cause it's never too late for the good guys to stop them last minute. I honestly think the only time this was done cleverly was in frozen with Hans because that one was kindve a shocker Ngl. However it's like you can always predict who the mysterious bad guy is going to be just by looking at the shady good guys and picking one who is the shadiest.

I always had that issue with the first incredibles movie. Like if everyone was super then the old supers wouldnt feel special anymore and that would be a bad thing? Despite the fact that bad supers would prolly be overwhelming out numbered by good supers and they couldnt bully anybody because everyone would be able to stand up for themselves. I mean i know that not all supers would have the same combat prowess, but super villains would not be soooo much more powerful than others that they could terrorize entire populations unchecked

I have a similar problem with Harry Potter... The message is that Voldemort is wrong to think muggles are inferior but the story goes out of its way to portray muggles as inferior. I remember how before the seventh book came out I was thinking to myself how it would be really cool if the twist was that Voldemort would be defeated by a muggle. That would have been poignant. But whatever I guess killing him with a non-lethal spell and literal love magic is Meaningful somehow idk...

(Btw I haven't seen the new Fantastic Beasts movie and I don't care, so I'm not saying anything about Grindelwald.)

i think themes about achievement and such need to be more balanced between ‘you can get anywhere with hard work’ and ‘you can get anywhere with refined natural talent’, because there are so many things that factor into achieving goals... sometimes you need a little bit of natural talent to help you grasp whatever you’re working towards, and obviously if you do have natural talent you also have to put in lots of man-made work to refine it- yet even if you’re the most talented and well read person on the planet you may still not get the job you’re after because of other conditions. monsters university is probably the best example of this mix since mike doesn’t exactly get the job he wants due to his physical limitations and breaking the school rules, but his hard work still gets him in a position really close to the one he wanted- sulley is the opposite and ends up in the same place. idk that’s just my onion

Am I the only one who enjoys and agrees with the idea of inherent greatness?! Everyone is inherently great at something! Sure, you can always improve yourself, but why can't people be born great at a certain thing? I dunno, I liked the closing monologue in the rat movie

It might not be a fun message, but it's true. some people have a natural talent for things, and if they develop that odds are they will be better than most, even those who have spent years practicing.

That said, I think everyone has something making naturally excel at. Remy just isn't the natural-born chef that his brother is. That doesn't mean he can't still be an excellent cook, but he's probably never going to be as good AS good as his brother, and that's okay. You don't have to be the best at something could be note worthy. If you're pursuing a life's passion and it turns out you just suck at it, don't despair, just look at it from a different angle. There's something about it that's calling to you. Explore, find it. Remy clearly has a discerning palate.Perhaps the job for him is saucier rather than chef.

Jenny, actually Yes I would say everyone has a special flair at something BUT you can be a hard worker and hone a skill that does not come naturally and can sometimes surpass those who have a natural flair at something especially if the person with a natural flair is easily discouraged/ defeated and can not handle the fact that even when you have a natural flair at something there will be parts of it that take hard work and so, then when they make mistakes and small areas they see that as failure and give up. ( yes I have seen this in real life not just cartoons) So in some ways having the natural flair for something is a blessing and a curse because those who work hard for it don’t see failure as an option and struggle all along the way and those who started out maybe with an upper hand because of their flair for something don’t gain that same stick to it attitude from the very beginning.

I was confused about the relationship of this theme to the first movie. Incredibles 1 was pretty clearly about how superheroes were oppressed for being special, but in Incredibles 2 it seemed like the point was that we rely too much on special people.

There were kind of two themes here that were poorly blended. Theme 1 tv is bad because people arent living damn it! 2. Heroes are bad because they make us complacent and week. What happens when the heroes dont save us? One of those is actually kind of interesting. The other is the ravings of a grump old man
