Anyway a good plot for Incredibles 2 should have revolved around how the government cancelled memories from people's minds to preserve superhero's idendities and maybe the incredibles didn't know it and then they found out thanks to violet and then they had to do something to prevent that from happening again

She's absolutely right about the weird message of these movies. They're great but I always thought they were a little ultra-capitalist. How it's unfair for the lucky few who were born with powers to have to share them with others. Or the line ''If everyone is special, that means no one is''. A bit concerning for a kids movie

the problem i have with incredibles 2 is that voyd, the superhero who can teleport large objects, didn't just teleport the ship to the middle of the ocean, far from the city...

The last time we see Evelyn in the movie (when she is in police custody) she says to Mrs Incredible something like "the fact that you saved my life doesn't mean that you're right"... In that scene Brad Bird is basically saying "shouting 'is wrong to kill people' and punching someone in the face is not a valid counter-argument. Stop watching so many movies and do something productive with your life, sheeple"

That Spiderman line was perfectly indicative of post- 9/11 America, and no superhero movie will ever have a line like that again ever. Because now superhero movies are either super cynical or super silly.

I loved the incredibles 2 but I'll be very honest one thing that was missing from my mental digestion from it was themes and morals. I was just so excited to see it and it looked so great after leaving the theatre I was just focused on the action and storyline. But this video was so satisfying to watch and reallt gave me that extra bit of insight and discussion that i needed 😂

There seems to be a lot of idiots in the entertainment industry who don't realize most people have real lives with real problems and like movies, TV, games, and books as some escapism. It's only a problem for a few people who if they think the fantasies are real life, like vampires are real or superheroes exist.

I think it's because most people they deal with are fans who are praising their works, and the creators are too stupid to realize maybe the guys cheering for Star Wars aren't always cheering for Star Wars, that they have jobs and pay bills and do other stuff. But why do they hate the few fans who spend thousands of dollars of collectables that they are offering and make money off of? if the die hard fans are so disturbing don't sell Star Wars merch, do like Bill Waterson and never have Calvin and Hobbes toys.

Also the average person isn't going to hear about a building on fire across town, drive an hour to get there and try t put it out. There are firefighters in the real world, and 400 averages dudes trying to "help" will just get in their way.

Also I feel like it's not entirely fair to say that the thing Winston does at the end is just as stupid as the thing his father did? In Winston's case, the superheroes were all right there so it wasn't at all unreasonable for him to assume that they would be able to do something once he'd freed the ones that were still being mind controlled. His father imo was much less justified in thinking that Gazerbeam and whatnot would be able to come and help him when they were who-knows-where and meanwhile there were burglars in his house right that very second.

While the movie was "entertaining" it was really disappointing. After having a really cool non-super powered villain in the first movie, I was really thinking that they would have a superpowered villain. It was so obvious who the villain was the second she was introduced I was really expecting it to just be a ruse. Kids who watched the original have grown up, so how about a slightly more mature storyline?

Ironically, my main problem with the movie is how Evelyn thought she could discredit superheroes and encourage people to get off their asses and stop being complacent by creating situations of peril that could literally ONLY be solved by the efforts of at least one superhero, like hypnotizing the driver of a bullet train and sending it off a cliff.

When people talk about politics in movies, they often only talk about dumb stuff like women instead of men in movies, but this is also a political and philosophical statement.

I think Jenny (as well as some folks in the comments here) are overlooking something about The Iron Giant: Hogarth is another one of Brad Bird's "exceptional individual held down by mediocre masses" type characters. He did so well in school he was moved up a grade, and he still excels in these classes filled with older kids who struggle, which causes them to resent him and bully him. Hogarth insists he doesn't think he's any smarter than the "big mooses"-- he just does "the stupid homework. If they just did the stupid homework, they could move up a grade and get pounded too." He's clearly not aware that homework isn't so easy for everyone. While it's not the main theme of the movie, Bird's slightly pseudo-randian tendencies do show up here. So 100% of his output does touch on this theme in some way or another.

I think the comments of cosmoblue772 and Weird Autumn are particularly insightful in this regard. I think Bird sees his younger self in Hogarth.

Could it be that the "pre-determined role" stuff you talked about is some sort of metaphor for privilege in the real world? The rest of the film is very politically progressive, dealing with issues like gender roles, which is most apparent in the parenting plotline. It depicts in a mature way, using the superhero premise as a backdrop, issues such as women in the workplace, conflicts between careers and children, and the stigma against stay-at-home dads. It also gives a lot of credit to mothers through how overwhelmed and exhausted Bob gets after just a few days of taking care of the kids.

Incredibles 2 is kind of weird in that it's sort of just the first movie with some role reversal. A parent is hired by the obvious villain who compensates for not having powers by using technology and they're mad at superheroes because of something from when they were a kid. The other parent is left at home with the kids and eventually decides they have to go help their spouse, but oh no, the kids are here too! The family (including Frozone) works together to overcome a big machine (the robot in the first and the boat in the second) that's threatening a city, then they take out the bad guy on a plane. There were other things that occurred to me while watching it that I can't remember now but there are so many parallels with the first that it felt uninspired and redundant. Also Bob kind of lost his character development from the first movie, he's still just wanting to be a superhero again and now he's resentful of his wife because she gets to be one, it was just sort of a bad look.

It would be great if a possible Incredibles 3 had a superpowered villain to balance things out and it could be really interesting to see what direction the story would go in if they did such a movie. Although, I wonder if Brad Bird would do that considering his penchant for predetermined greatness.

Although, you could say that Edna Mode and Rick Dicker are examples of people that achieved greatness in this universe without powers. They've both made some amazing technological achievements and the supers go to them for help.

I'm probably getting a lot of stuff wrong, because it took (still now) me years to see the objectivist narrative in the first one. Mostly because it clashes with the super-hero stuff. It really doesn't gel. I just saw it as people having this one thing they're really great at, but getting held back due to their current living conditions. I always saw Mr. Incredible's story-line as someone who has a mid-life crisis, btw.

Although, recently I given this film more thought when it comes to talented people and there are two in this film whose talents are mostly unmentioned. The first one is Syndrome. I mean he's an engineering genius. He built flying rocket boots at age ten. He has technologies more advanced than the time-era it's based on or what we have today. His only problem is that he chose the bad life.

The second one is Edna Mode. She's a fashion genius, considering she has made super-suits, uses fabrics that has to give them protection as well as benefit their power. And make them look stylish and distinct. I mean, that has to be a hell of a thing that you need to pull off.

I mean, if we take the talent message of this film, we shouldn"t forget about Edna.
