The process of applying for Social Security Disability benefits is long and difficult. If you make the wrong move, you could RUIN your chances of getting benefits. In this video, David Henson--managing partner of HensonFuerst Attorneys--discusses what NOT to do during the application process.

Applying for Social Security Disability is tough. At the time when you are feeling bad enough to be considered disabled, the agency seems to want to make the process as difficult as possible. If you want to make their job easier, I can help you with that.
Hi, I'm David Henson, managing partner with HensonFuerst Attorneys. We help people through the long and exhausting process of attaining Social Security Disability benefits everyday. Of the many things we've learned along the way, one lesson is clear: The SSA looks for reasons to reject your claim. Here are the top 5 things you can do to help SS shut you out.

1. Don't get medical care for your conditions.

2. Do drugs or alcohol.

3.Break the law, or end up in jail.

4.Don't keep your lawyer up-to-date on your situation.

5. Miss deadlines or appointments.

If you work hard all your life, and end up so injured or sick that you can no longer work, you may be eligible to receive Social Security Disability benefits. But just because you are eligible, that doesn't mean you are entitled. There is a world of reasons why your case may be not be approved...don't hand the courts a reason to deny your claim.
This is David Henson, with HensonFuerst Attorneys. For more information about how we can help you fight for your SSD benefits, visit our website at LAWMED.com/SocialSecurityDisability/. Or, call us at 1-800-4-LAWMED.

My husband has fought for almost 3 yrs He’s went to drs that they recommend being he’s had no income and when he told the jokes of things his problems with health and found out he has no insurance they all but laugh at him l. Even the drs and test that was ordered by social security disability case workers the drs was a joke Plain and simple ! My husband worked almost 40 yrs in mills that processed wood with chemicals, which he was exposed to on daily basis, then his health failed He was fired because he could no longer preform the duties he was required because a helper was hired to do the job he couldn’t all the helper wanted to do was hide and sleep because his lead man was his buddy . After enough was enough and missing work he reported the shit to the real supervision So all they said was ya causing a hostile work place He was let go after almost 24 yrs because of idiots 😡laws in Mississippi claims 3 yrs on suing it’ll be September 29 2916 when he was let go and was told basically to go fuck ya self He’s waiting on a ruling now but what would ya recommendations be going forward if he’s denied ?

My disability is mental. I have disabling BPD and suicidal ideation. I also have PTSD and clinical depression. Not to mention substance abuse is already a hard thing for me to deal with due to the BPD. At this point, I rather kill myself than deal with this. There's no place for me in this world.

Best way to be approved for SS on the first time around is to gather all of your medical record and take them DIRECTLY to Social Security administration. That way you are not relying on or slow government or doctors to obtain them.

I never received it! I was denied for 9 YEARS even though I did EVERYTHING you said! In the end, none of it mattered! They just completely ignored all statements and records from my doctors and their doctors made up things in their reports because they have an ulterior motive and a conflict of interest, not to mention two of them were overtly racist and biased against me. My doctor sent them multiple personal letters and even took time out of his busy schedule to call them himself to tell them that I was permanently disabled and STILL they denied me! So going to see their doctors and getting my doctors to say I was disabled was a waste of time AND money! I even had a crappy lawyer that expected me to do everything and on top of that, they abandoned me a week before the ALJ hearing, leaving me to face them in court ALONE!!! Lastly, I have no criminal record and am not on any drugs of ANY KIND! They have NO EXCUSE! These people don't care if I'm sick and homeless, starve to death, or commit suicide because I'm tired of the pain and suffering! Racist, evil, system!

Too many fraud cases! There are so many hillbillies that never wanted to work but managed to get approved with the help of the Attorney and thats wrong and the Attorneys who helped them are just as much if not more to blame!
Maybe if the Attorneys had character and integrity and refused to represent these phonies then perhaps it wouldn't be so bad but the Attorneys are blood suckers and would sell their own Mother for a buck.

They should charge the Attorney for all phony cases and make them pay back the money and then maybe that would help?
or they should lower the cost for them so its not as lucrative for them?

I blame the Hillbilly but I blame the blood suckers more because they are suppose to know better!

Health care clinic refuses to release my medical records. I had to move out of area (was on Obamacare) and see another doctor after one failed SSDI application. No medical records showed up despite breast cancer, sigmoid colon resection, and other medical conditions. Now, I am destitute and have just reapplied. Physician I just saw noted physiological signs of sleep apnea of severe and chronic nature which may be why I have no energy, a “leaking heart valve,” and torn trapezius muscle on the right. Again, this California healthcare clinic refuses to issue my medical records - which are a chest x-ray, lab work. I have mitral valve insufficiency, a torn trapezius muscle on dominant right side, I have worked for 35 years in total. How can I get my medical records from this clinic?

I just got approved for disability. I have herniated and bulging disks from a fall at 24.

I have a chiropractor records that show I go almost everyday
I have an xray and and mri to show I'm injured
I have physical therapy (which doesn't work but I go anyway)
I have proof that I have been going for a year .

Everytime I cancel a doctors appointment I ask them to put in the notes that I'm in too much pain to get out bed and cant make my appointment

I did all the things that cause me injuries (bend over, do the dishes, walk) to show them what happens if I do day to day activities. As a result I couldnt walk and half crawled to get into the evaluation room

I was honest and explained I do have good days and if I have a good day I try to save it (resting though it and if i have a few good days in a row which is so rare I try to get out to do something even if it's just a walk in the park)

I explained how my injuries affected me and how hard it is to do day to day activities

I am approved now for disability.

Look at the listings of impairments to see if you qualify. https://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/AdultListings.htm. You may have a very severe condition that may qualify you without much fuss. If you are older, more than age 55 and have worked at a strenuous job, your chances are good, even if you have used substances. Complete the function report honestly. Complete the work history report. If you don't remember your past jobs and dates, give estimates the best you can. And write on the form that the dates are estimated.

It took me 17 months to win mine with two denials and a hearing in front of administrative law judge and and then close to 90 days to start receiving benefits. I cannot count the times people ask me how saying they gave up after first denial. I always tell them to find a good law firm to represent you and a have a paper trail. My attorney received 25% of my back benefits for which I did not care. It's about securing the benefits for your disability not hitting the lottery and in addition your lawyer needs to get paid also. One of biggest excuses I hear is people don't want to have to pay attorneys fees which is a piss poor excuse. Not only that listen to your lawyer and do what he says so much as in people that don't follow their doctors orders and can't figure out why shit turned out wrong. My attorney once told me many claims are denied because of incomplete paperwork, missed deadlines done by people with know experience. Could go on forever here but one last thing is when you get your hearing before a judge how you present yourself and respond to his questions can be a factor. If you are truly disabled and know it do not quit.

If you have medical records of your illness it shouldn’t take years or months to receive the benefit. You pay into the system you should get help when you need it. You shouldn’t have to prove you deserve anything!

I need help. I am 20 and have had severe anxiety since I was a child. I have worked in the past but that was only when I had someone put in a good word for me from working there. I dread interviews and do horribly at them, my anxiety is so bad I can't even talk to people. I didn't talk in class or to any students when I was in school, barely made it through high school. Currently living with my fiance and can't keep a job due to my anxiety and not being able to communicate as good as regualr people to my coworkers and customers. I stutter, shake, sweat and cant bring my words together, anytime I try to talk to someone it comes out as a mumbled mess that I cant even understand. Then this makes people think I'm stupid or retarded and it hurts my self esteem even more and my anxiety. My anxiety is so bad that sometimes when a stranger or someone I'm not 100% comfortable with talks to me I'm too busy worrying about being judged and dreading having to reply that I end up not understanding what they said. My mind will literally forget how to understand english which makes me freak out more. Its to the point now where I can't even go outside without my heart racing and shaking. I get anxious on the sidewalk! Thats how bad it is. And honestly I barely ever leave my apartment and have literally no freinds. I'm extremely lonely and get really depressed because I need a job but can't keep one, if I find a job where they don't fire me I end up quitting because my coworkers always treat me terribly because of my issue. I need to get ssd or ill be homeless becaus so currently don't have a job and wont be able to get one that I can do if I even get past the interview. My issue is this, how do I get accepted if I can't afford to pay for an attorney and to get screened. I am literally broke but if I don't do this I will be homeless. I heard it is basically impossible to get approved unless you have money lying around to pay for this. Not only that but they would want me to appear in front of a judge! Ive had to do that before and only got through it because I only had to say one word, but this time id be expected to answer questions and explain my case. Which is impossible, its really shitty to expect someone like me to be able to do that and to have thousands of dollars laying around. What can i do in my situation??

I get S.S.I. the worst thang you can do, at any point in the process is to disclose previous or current drug addiction!!! You can TAKE IT TO THE BANK, YOU WILL NOT NOW or EVER get disability!!! It's makes an Administrative Law Judge's decision easy.
Point is Your NOT GOING TO BE GIVEN ANY HELP, if they believe your going to use the money feeding a drug addiction!!! Administrative Law Judge's see this in your file.... Case Closed, Have a nice day.
