Did you guys take time to actually learn the jumps? Lol. Excellent quad sal (toe loop) by Kurt Browning though

So that gymnst that did that cool flip in the intro. I had subtitles on and didn't see the second bar so I was like did she just defy gravity?

So you mention Surya Bonaly but not the fact she is the only one to land a backflip with one skate?

Ugh! So many errors in this video! Both in the dialogue and in the mismatching of video examples. The Olympic Channel really should be able to do better.

The footage of Boitano showed didn't show a Salchow. And the footage of Kurt Browning shows him attempting a quad toe loop.

It's funny, Alexei Yagudin is my favorite figure skater... So awesome to find out through this video that he was the first to successfully and flawlessly execute a quad! Go Yagudin!!! 👏👏

Truth- they wouldn’t be trying it in competition if they hadn’t been nailing it in practice.

I am a figure skater my self and im just cringing at the fact that most of the elements were labelled wrong. Like mistaking a triple for a quad
Isnt that even just a little embarassing...

"Everyone's a critic"- not me. I can't even roller skate, let alone ice skate, so anything these people are doing is amazing to my eyes.

You CAN NOT view the activity as the subtitles are in the way!
Really poor editing!

Japanese subtitles are all in the wrong order top-bottom wise. Line 2 sits on top of Line 1 instead of proper 1-on-top-of-2 (common sense!) so the translation makes no sense at all.

Thank you to all the commentators below. I now know that "ice dance" = no jumps or throws or lifts above the shoulder, "figure skating" = you might not have perfect form or synchronicity or technique, but bl00dy heck you're brave.

Also now understand (as a British person still smarting from Lillehammer) why the judges are so keen to keep to disciplines distinct at the apogee of the sports (otherwise there'd be only one sport).

They didn’t give her 5th place due to under rotation, they scored her less each time because she dared to do amazingly and they saw not only her skin colour, but that she “ didn’t fit the body type of a figure skater “ she should have won gold that year

I really think the Axel is the the jump that changed figure skating, specifically the triple since there's a handful of women who have landed it, let alone every attempting a quad axel.

And now I know it has nothing to do with jumping cows.

Well that Chinese girl got the bottom of her feet beaten to bloody pulps with rods of bamboo for not landing that jump. They told her since you are no use to our country for skating than you should have no use of walking for our country. Horrible communist China.

Its funny because all of these skaters are soooo good and the judges opinion only matters if they want a piece of metal and ribbon. That throw quad was worth all the medals in the world and in my book they did it.
